Coming in to the day the Garden State Growl were riding a six game winning streak and were on the tails of the Aston Demolition for control of the Atlantic Division lead. In their way on Saturday was the 495ers, who entering the game were an impressive 8-3-1 and in the hunt for the lead int he Northeast Division.
Getting the nod for both games was goalie Mike Maczynski, who has yet to suffer a defeat since playing with the Growl in PIHA. From the drop of the first puck, the Growl dominated the 495ers and Ryan Mara caplitalized with a goal in the first period. Jon Lucente added two second half goals enroute to a 3-1 victory. Maczynski allowed just one goal on thirteen shots and earned his 8th victory of the seaon.
Game two was an extention of the first. The Growl road the emotional high of a game one victory right into the second tilt. An offensive surge allowed the Growl to score four times in the first period on goals by Campanaro (2), Grabert, and Susini. The second half saw two more Growl goals by Grabert and Mara and the Growl skated to a 6-0 victory.
Mike Maczynski earned his second shutout of the season as he stopped all 18 shots fired his way and his ninth victory of the season.
